Rick Santorum won.
It's no secret,
I really enjoy watching the debates.
I like to step back, set aside all my bias thoughts, and just listen and see who can win the art of debate whether I agree with them or not.
I'm not very good at debating. I have my views and thoughts and convictions which I trust to be sound, but in convincing others in the fashion of debate....I'm just not good at that.
Maybe that's why I appreciate a good political dialogue even if I don't like the politician winning the interchange.
Newt Gingrich, once again, did well last night.
But, boy oh boy, how I hope I don't have to vote for Newt come election day.
Ron Paul was Ron Paul. Gotta admire the guy for standing firm in his ideas.
He has his good points, but he is so wrong on foreign affairs and he loses all credibility every time he opens his mouth regarding the Middle East, Osama Bin Laden, 9/11, and our duty and relationship to our allies.
Mitt Romney did well defending capitalism, going after Obama, and he remained strong on foreign affairs, the economy and jobs. Though I feel he can win against Obama in the election, he has not been as convincing in the debates as I had hoped. I sure wish Mitt would step it up and quit playing it so safe!
Can't he see that the people want somebody to go harder after not only Obama but the left in general, and in particular the media? That is why Newt has gotten such a positive response. They like how he controls the media and any given questions on stage. Conservatives are tired of being bullied and tired of being the nice guys to their own detriment.
Rick Santorum came out last night ready to win this thing. He was strong, he made some valid points speaking throughout the event with conviction and deeply rooted values. He came off as confident while still being humble. He projected intelligence and like-ability. I would happily vote for Rick Santorum if he were to end up being our nominee. I'm just not sure he has the money or organization behind him needed to win a national election against the most corrupt and evil administration this country has ever seen.
Have you watched any of the debates?
What are your thoughts?
I'm curious to know.....
Here's the debate in its entirety:

I love the debates, too - I don't think I have missed a single one! And I agree with your thoughts about Newt - only HE could get all pious about cheating on his wives! I am all about forgiveness, but for me, it would have gone a whole lots farther if he had given a more repentant answer!
ReplyDeleteRomney needed to have a couple of Reagan moments last night, and while I think he did very well, much much better than Monday's debate, all the media can focus on this morning - especially FOX - is his reluctant stance on his tax returns. Personally, I think the financials that they are required to turn in contain all the information on the subject that voters need to know. The only thing I disagree with you here is about Santorum. I commented to my husband about halfway through that he seemed flushed and anxious, not at all confident. What did I miss here?
Regarding Newt....Like you I'm all for redemption- but there comes a point that even though you are forgiven there are still consequences to your actions and I feel a fair consequence to his actions forgiven or not would be his inability to win a primary election against other more worthy candidates.
ReplyDeleteRomney just seems so unapproachable...and he kinda is. I think he is into the success of the country and he has faith in the American people, but he is missing that connection to the people.
He has A LOT of money and that is a GOOD thing! It's going to take somebody with a lot of money to win this thing!
Santorum....hmm, I don't know what you are missing- maybe he's just not your type of personality. I felt he was frustrated, but not with his message or his ability to express it, more frustrated with the people responding overwhelmingly to Gingrich's style rather than his record...Like him or not- he made some great points highlighting the differences between the 4 of them.
My very favorite part was when Romney laughed at Gingrich taking credit for his (Romney's) wealth. That alone should be a huge warning flag on Gingrich.
ReplyDeleteSantorum is a good man, but, his personality is not one I would prefer anyway.
I agree with you about Newt Sheila. He is a strong debater; however even I can't get over his past.
ReplyDeleteI am going for Mitt because he is the strongest contender. However, he holds a lot back and I am starting not to trust him.
Dang; we need a new candidate!
You and I are a lot alike.
ReplyDeleteWe were just discussing this. I didn't watch last night but LP was just saying that Romney needs to not act so apologetic for having money. There's nothing wrong with having money, money creates jobs. He does need to step it up a little and not be so safe.
Newt is hilarious. I don't think I want him as president either, but he is fun to watch. I would love to see him debate Obama.
You know how I feel :-D
ReplyDeleteIt's going to be interesting!
Hi There, I enjoyed reading all of the comments. I think all of your readers are expressing most of us Republicans. There's not one really good candidate.. Too bad we can't take traits from each and form a brand new person. Of course, I'd vote for Mickey Mouse if I had to ---anyone BUT Obama!!!!
ReplyDeleteI like Newt, maybe more than some do.. He's feisty and has that passion that is needed. Love the way he goes after our horrible liberal media... That is GOOD!!!
Santorum is a great guy--but something is missing. Romney just doesn't relate to the people --and it is hurting him...
Paul scares me to death. IF he decides to run as a 3rd party---that means that Obama will win for sure. That will split the votes... I pray that that doesn't happen.
Romney may be our best overall candidate --who can beat Obama, but I truly am still not sure....
Love the debates too...
Hugs,
Betsy
hmmm...I do like Santorum, but I did think he had an off night. Frustrated might explain it, for sure.
ReplyDeleteReading updates on poll numbers. Sick to my stomach.
Please no to Newt. We need someone with integrity. I like a lot of Ron Paul's ideals, but I don't feel like he's presidential material. I'm bugged that Romney wouldn't say anything about the importance of strong family values when asked about Newt's history. Santorum was good, but something seemed off. They would all be WAY better than what we have now.
ReplyDeleteDebate is a skillful dance. Some are naturally talented and others have honed their craft superseding sincerity. I enjoy seeing Newt's thinly veiled disdain for the media in action, a la Juan Williams rebuke and the CNN moderator, however, his Bernays-like statements are chilling in their boldness. That would be an enemy to the truth and I cannot condone it regardless of party. There is so much fear and ambition driving this election it's unsettling. Our responsibility, no matter who wins, is to ensure we lash ourselves to the correct principles and values.
ReplyDeleteIt's so sad that really what it really comes down to is $$$, how smooth of a liar are you, and what mood is the news media in. With that said, I'm a Ron Paul kind of girl. Hey, I campaigned for Ross Perot, you know. Newt is smart, and a lifetime politician who has had a lot of practice of playing the game, and standing up to the news media. Santorium has turned out to be a pleasant surprise. So, who can win against Bucko? Mitt/ or Newt. I think Sheila is right though, rich, little mormon boy need to stand up a little more to the media pinheads. Tune down your 'Sunday voice' and let's get out here and compete.
ReplyDeleteI haven't watched the most recent debates. There have been so many and life has been getting in the way of watching TV. ha ha. That being said, I am torn about Newt vs. Romney. I don't love either of them. But I want whichever one will beat Obama (and actually take charge in a conservative manner) to get the nomination. I like Santorum a lot too. I don't think this is his year but it may be in 2016 :( or 8 years from now, depending on how November goes. He seems very principled... more than Newt or Romney. I agree Romney needs to get stronger on his principles and pounding Obama. I really wish the candidates would stop beating up on each other. It's just getting old and we have months to go.
ReplyDeleteWow that was long!
